This beautiful country, especially at sunset held many secrets. The red fire sky, silhouetting the bush, reflected the bloodshed that splattered the landscape every few miles. One day previous, we had been air dropped in, undetected by trained eyes that scanned the horizon for illegal entrance. Over the last 36 hours we had plotted the best course to our target, marched 20 miles through dense bush and secured the best position for what was to follow. One hour before dawn we crept in quietly, and observed at close quarter how many men they had, their firepower, their ammunition supply’s and their communication capabilities. As covertly as we moved in, we moved out and plotted coordinates for a combined strike from RAF and USA special operations squadrons, and waited.
