Marooned

Went for an interview today for a job a really wanted. I didn’t get it, I blew it!!! I’m a little bit pissed off with myself.

So right now, I wish I was sailing in that yacht alone with a nice bottle of single malt.

  1. Do not be too hard with yourself.Chuck it to experience and it will prepare you for the next interview.Who knows? The next job offer could be much better for you. The current one may not really be in the cards anyway for you.

      1. I empathize with you. It is natural to feel disappointed. I have been through that in the past as well. I learned from experience and tried to improve myself especially in strategy. The road is not easy but we all reach our destination much stronger than ever.

      1. Thanks, mate! Lol the worst thing is feeling sorry for yourself so instead I get pissed instead ๐Ÿคฃ

Tomorrow will be a better day. All the best to you too! Bottoms up ๐Ÿฅƒ

  2. We canโ€™t constantly be everything people want us to be. When I donโ€™t get a specific job, normally itโ€™s because Iโ€™m putting too much pressure on myself, it reveals a silver lining.

Maybe put another way, better things often come when weโ€™ve dealt with whats troubling us inside.
External events only poke the internal bee hive, they donโ€™t put the bee hive inside us.

  3. I hope you can stop being angry with yourself. I saw a video the other day which said some people donโ€™t believe in luck and take responsibility for everything. Give yourself some slack. Itโ€™s not in your control to ensure you get any given job, even if you do everything a 120% right. Iโ€™m sorry you didnโ€™t get it though

    1. Yea I realise that now, I was desperately disappointed yesterday. Feel a little bit better this morning. I’ve thought about it and realised I probably couldn’t have answered some of their questions unless I’d already got experience on the job. Thanks for what you said, appreciate it ๐Ÿ˜Š

      1. It was for top fieldwork job in Social services. I was the only outside candidate. In the waiting room was an internal candidate who told me he was retiring in two years time and hoped I would get the job. The question that produced the answer that frightened them was effectively how would I react if they reorganised in two years and demoted me. The penny dropped so I instantly replied: “I would consider you didn’t want someone of my calibre and I would get a job somewhere else”.

  4. I understand that feeling. Not to worry, I’m pretty sure you will get another great opportunity soon.

Nothing will make the pain you feel go away so easily. I recommend you wait it out and take baby step with whatever you find pleasing to do.

You’re going to be just fine. โค๏ธ

  5. Aw sh*t, sorry about the interview โ€“ are you sure you didnโ€™t get it? Oddly enough, the interviews I thought went well over the year were jobs I didnโ€™t get (pleeeeenty of them!) but I remember two interviews in particular that went utterly horribly and I thought I stood less than no chance, and I was offered the job for both ๐Ÿ˜‚ If you donโ€™t get it, just imagine that you could have dodged a bullet and hopefully the next interview goes a little better for you. For now, forget, distract & chill out for a bit, youโ€™ve earned it because interviews are horrible!

  6. I know it’s been said already, but sorry you didn’t get that job. But don’t be too hard on yourself, often times it’s the interviewer that has the problem and just doesn’t see the true potential of someone. Keep looking, I’m sure something better will come along for you. Keep focused ahead, learn from the past.

  7. If it’s any consolation, I had a job interview last year and it was perfect. I was prepared, I answered every question intelligently. I even asked a question which made the interviewers stop and think.
But I didn’t get the job. Not only did I not get it: when I followed up, they said that they had offered the job to another candidate who had turned it down. They’d be readvertising.
The second ad was identical to the first. No changes to the requirements or the money on offer. All they did was add ‘previous applicants need not apply’.
I could understand them offering the job to another applicant other than myself. But going through the whole business all over again? When would-be employers play idiot games like that, I count it as a bullet dodged if they turn me down.
And as it happened another firm offered me a job just a couple of weeks later. Short term contract, six months only, but I completed the project and gained another referee ready to sing my praises. My manager and the HR office gave me some solid advice on my presentation. My resume is vastly improved as a result. So don’t fret, you never know when the phone will ring again.

  8. Is this your photo? It is amazing! Like what I ask in my case โ€“ this is probably what I expect sailing to beโ€ฆ Maybe it is as far from reality as what I post, but this is how I dream about this.

    1. It is a beautiful photograph isn’t it, but unfortunately it’s not my photograph, I found it on the internet. It reminded me of where I was in Italy last year, I wanted to be there when I failed at the interview ๐Ÿ˜Š

      1. Yea, I was disappointed that I didn’t get the job, but I’m fine now. I’m going back to Italy this year so I have something to look forward to ๐Ÿ˜Š

      2. Oh you should. It is full of those references to the childhood dreams. Like the Dumais romans and all history we somehow learnt.
The reality is different, but it is still nice to adjust the expectations to the reality.

      3. I thought about it, but I was so sure I will be able to find it elsewhere… But no, I failed to find it.
However going to Paris just to buy a vibrator seems ridiculous. ๐Ÿ™‚ Besides I am sure they have changed the assortment now.

      4. Of course it would be ridiculous but if you liked the look of it, then it would be worth popping in again next time you’re in Paris. ๐Ÿ˜Š What made it special?

      5. You are asking rational questions. I am a wrong person for that. Why do I like the dress? Or the purse?..
It is a feeling. An anticipation. An expectation. The desire and totally irrational wish to have it. With this particular item to also have it inside as well as simply own it.
I wish I could show a pic, but I can’t find it. Besides I am not sure a man can understand the joy of having something inside. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I suspect it wasnโ€™t meant to be…Iโ€™ve sabotaged myself a few times…something better showed up. Perhaps the sailing pic has a metaphor…you sail past some hidden land mines and head straight on till morning in search of a new horizon; go in confidence and the knowledge that you will ace the next opportunity but only if you fish for the prize!
